Stormy's Steps

Apr 14

I’m so sorry for lack of updates…

Just over a week ago, we lost our beautiful Stormy.
No one is really sure why, but a week prior he began having trouble standing up. We immediately took him to the vet, and the vet gave us some pills he was sure would work. In a matter of day, Stormy became immovable and we resorted to carrying him everywhere.
Even up to the very last night he was with us, he had so much energy. I had to lay in his bed with and hold him down all night because otherwise he would drag himself everywhere he wanted to go. It was so painful to watch.

Hoping it was something fixable, we took him to the vet as soon as they opened. They kept him most of the day, trying everything possible on him. All sorts of techniques they hoped would work – they were really confused as there was nothing on his x-ray and they don’t believe it was related to the amputation what-so-ever.

The vet called us back later that day and asked us to come in. There was nothing they could do and they explained that Stormy would never walk again.
We had to make the hardest decision, a decision we had wrongly thought we would never have to make and let Stormy go.
It’s been extremely hard on the entire family, even Patch (who always hated Stormy) was a sad puppy all week.
Stormy had the biggest personality and showed us he was a fighting right up until the end.

Since then, several dogs have turned up in our area – alone and lost, no owners that we could track down and uncared for, that we have found loving homes for.

My mom says she thinks Stormy is leading them to us, knowing they’ll be as loved and cared for as he was.

I don’t think I’ve cried quite this much in a very, very long time.

Goodbye, Stormy 🙁 I love you so much <3

This is one of the last photos I was ever able to take of Stormy :(

I am so sorry for your loss. Tears are coming as I’m typing. No matter when or how we lose our best friend there is so much pain and grief. Whether we are ready for it or not. We can only hope that all of the wonderful memories we had with them stay with us forever and eventually outweigh our sadness, grief and confusion. Letting go is the most unselfish gift we can give to our pets when their time has come. No one wants that day to come, ever. Stormy is at peace now and is definitely watching over you and knows that your family is special. Maybe he is pointing you in the direction of being a foster home for unwanted and unloved pets so that they may one day enjoy the loving and happy life you gave to Stormy. You will see him again someday.

I saw on the FB page that Stormy had a sudden downturn and earned his wings last week. I was so sad for you because I know how much you loved him.

Stormy was an inspiration to all the people with older dogs, so he gave hope to the hopeless. I also know there is joy for the long and happy life he had. I hope that you will find yourself drawn to the happy memories you made in those 14 years and soon can smile at them.

I’m crying now for you. He’s such a dear! I fell in love with him instantly – those eyes! They say nothing but LOVE and HAPPINESS and CONTENTMENT with his life, his family. This just isn’t fair. He was a special boy and certainly left his mark. He lived a very LONG life and had nothing but love and care. I am so sorry. (((HUGS)))

I never really got to know you and Stormy through the site, but I am so very sorry that Stormy is no longer with you. Just know this community is thinking of you and your family.

I’m so sorry to hear this sad news about Stormy. He was a very strong boy. But I agree with your Mom, I bet Stormy is leading all those poor dogs to you so they can experience the love he had. Sending healing thoughts to you.

Stormy, our hearts broke when we heard the news. It’s hard to imagine how quickly things happened, I know your folks have got to be hurting something awful.

No matter how long we have together, it’s never long enough is it? You were a wonderful, inspawrational pup who touched a lot of people my friend. It’s that shining spirit of yours that will keep on inspiring others as they face their own Tripawd journey.

May all of the good times be remembered near and dear, may your spirit soar among the heavens for eternity. You will be missed.

So sorry you lost your poor little pup Stormy! Thank you for sharing his story. He was a lucky dog, so well loved and well taken care of!

I lost my kitty Alley in Feb, and we couldn’t find out what was wrong with her. It is so hard not knowing why.
